As part of the project “Transcultural Competencies in the Asylum Procedure – Counseling and Qualification”, in cooperation with the Zohre Esmaeli Foundation, symposia on the topic were held on August 4th and 5th. Their aim was to strengthen the competences of those working in the asylum procedure as well as to promote their networking in this field of work. 

To this end, core lectures on perspectives on the German asylum procedure system were given by May Zeidani Yufanyi and Prof. Dr. Safiye Yıldız. Furthermore, networking meetings and several workshops provided the opportunity for joint interaction and elaboration of key topics. The following topics were addressed in the workshops: 

  • Flight and human trafficking (Sarah Stöfl).
  • (European) Borders: First and second class refugees? (Vincent Haiges)
  • Flight and masculinity (Yener Bayramoğlu)
  • LGBTIQ+ Refugees (Rafia Shahnaz) 
  • Cooperation with language mediators in the asylum procedure (Birsen Serinkoz) 
  • Addiction and flight (Christina Weidanz)

The symposium was moderated by WDRforyou host and journalist Bamdad Esmaeli. The end of the symposium was musically accompanied by the Babylon Orchestra Berlin.
